"Every procedure I've had by these wonderful dentists has been superb! From cleanings, crowns, removal of amalgam fillings, I have no worries or feelings of anxiety, as I know my confidence high as a patient. I have been a patient for 9 years. The most professional and friendly staff in the world! No service improvements needed! I know that many people "fear" going to a dentist. Dr. Medlock, Dr. Keith, and staff make EVERY PATIENT feel comfortable and at ease, as they explain procedures well and are the most gentle and professional dentists in the world! A very clean office with friendly warm "welcome" smiles is an extra bonus! I would highly recommend everyone to this office of Dental Professionals!" -- Cathy

While dentists make every effort to preserve and restore patient's natural tooth structure, there are times when a permanent tooth may be lost. For some, it is possible that all permanent teeth will need to be removed due to weakened tooth structure or some other degenerative process. As holistic dentists who seeks the healthiest possible option for restorations, Drs.James Medlock and Elizabeth Keith takes the issue of dental implants very seriously.

In recent years, dental implants have developed to a point where the implant itself is 100% titanium, which many dental professionals tout a biocompatible material. In our practice, patients are treated with dental implants made of zirconia. This material, with is a metal-free ceramic, has been proven to reside well within the oral tissues without causing irritation or a galvanic effect.

There are clear benefits to zirconia dental implants in addition to their metal-free makeup. Ceramic is a material that is white, versus the metallic silver of titanium. White implants beneath beautiful white restorations set the stage for a naturally beautiful, functional smile.

Atop implants, Drs.James Medlock and Elizabeth Keith uses the same safe materials used to construct dental crowns and bridges. Still, implants are recommended only after thoughtful consideration and a thorough examination of medical and dental conditions. In order for the implant procedure to begin, any periodontal disease or imbalance in the acid/alkaline ratio will need to be addressed and corrected.

Recommended as an alternative to the root canal procedure, dental implants may be used for the permanent replacement of a single tooth, as the foundation to implant-supported dentures, or to replace every tooth individually. A permanent solution, the implant treatment is a process that takes months to complete.

The first phase of the implant process is the oral surgery procedure in which implants are inserted directly into the jawbone. After insertion, gum tissue is secured over the implant for the duration of the healing process. Over the course of two to four months following this surgical procedure, healthy jaw bone heals around the tiny titanium implant.

Once the implant is firmly integrated into the jawbone structure, the patient returns to for the placement of the abutment, the portion of the implant that attaches the artificial tooth to the titanium screw. In this procedure, gum tissue is cut back from the implant, and the abutment is attached. Gum tissue is then secured around the abutment. Within approximately ten days, once the gum tissue has healed, the patient may return for the placement of the crown portion of the implant.

Although titanium is thought to be biocompatible by much of the dental world, it is a material that we prefer to use as sparingly as possible. We make our patients' general health and wellbeing a priority when planning dental care, so choose to use zirconia implants for tooth replacement.
