Teeth whitening from a dentist in West Palm Beach

Everyone wants to have an attractive smile. It enhances your appearance and affects how you are perceived by others. For people who are struggling with stained, yellow, or discolored teeth, professional whitening is an affordable and extremely effective procedure for dramatically changing the smile.

With all of the drug store toothpastes and gels, many patients ask us why they would need to see a dentist for teeth whitening. While over-the-counter methods are readily available, most people are disappointed in the results. Generic trays often mean that teeth will be unevenly whitened.

In addition, over-the-counter kits are much weaker than the professional counterparts. Professional kits in our office can produce results that are four to six shades whiter.

Once you’ve decided that you want teeth whitening from Dr. Medlock, you will come in for an initial consultation. Any issues such as tooth decay or gum disease will need to be addressed prior to treatment. Porcelain restorations like crowns or fillings do not respond to the teeth whitening gel. Patients may opt to have a new crown placed after a whitening treatment for an even, natural looking smile.

The in-office whitening procedure is typically completed in less than an hour. The gel will be applied to the teeth with special precautions taken to make sure it does not touch the gums or the lips. You will leave our office with a brand new, vibrant smile.

One of the biggest questions we receive from patients after a whitening treatment is how to keep their smile sparkling. The easiest way is to avoid the biggest tooth staining culprits: dark colored foods and beverages. Coffee, tea, red wine, and sodas can all stain the teeth. If you do consume these beverages, try to use a straw or brush your teeth immediately afterward.

Make sure to brush and floss your teeth regularly to keep them free of plaque and bacteria. You may use a whitening toothpaste if you desire, but try to limit it to once per week since they can cause increased sensitivity.

A vibrant white smile is just an appointment away.
